    Do sporting experiences predict team cohesion in youth athletes?

    This cross-sectional study aimed to examine the association between sporting experiences and the perception of team cohesion according to sex among youth Brazilian recreational athletes. Participants were 253 youth athletes with age average of 12.97 ± 0.98years. Athletes represented the following sports: Indoor soccer (n=20); basketball (n=62); handball (n=123) and; volleyball (n=48). The instruments used were the Youth Experience Survey for Sport (P-YES-S) and the Youth Sport Environment Questionnaire (P-YSEQ). Independent sample t-test revealed significant difference between sexesin the dimensions ofPersonal Skills (p=0.02) (d= 0,31) and Task Cohesion (p=0.02) (d= 0,34). The following significant correlations were found for girls:Task Cohesion with Personal Skills (r=0.48), Initiative Experiences (r=0.37); and Social Cohesion with Personal Skills (r=0.41), Cognitive Skills (r=0.43) and Initiative Experiences (r=0.32). For boys, it was found the following correlations: Task Cohesion with Personal Skills (r=0.19), Initiative Experiences (r=0.42) and Negative Experiences (r=-0.22); and Social cohesion with Personal Skills (r=0.18) and Initiative Experiences (r=0.30). Multiple regression analysis indicated that sports experiences are significant predictors of task (R2=0.21; F=17.838; p<0.01) and social cohesion (R2=0.10; F=7.440; p<0.01). It can be concluded that positive sporting experiences may predict social and task cohesion among youth athletes.

    Family Perceptions About the Methodology of the “We All Are Campus” Training Program

    The transition to adulthood involves not only the acquisition of professional skills but also the development of social and emotional competencies that enable individuals to fully integrate into society. The educational program "We all are campus" of the University of Murcia focuses on preparing young people with intellectual disabilities for the ultimate goal of employment. In this study, 30 family members or guardians of people with intellectual disabilities (PcDI) participated and were consulted about their perceptions of this educational program. The research was conducted using a mixed qualitative methodology, adopting a case study approach. The main results indicate that the training received by the students improves aspects such as their interpersonal relationships and development. In addition, it is relevant to highlight that the family members emphasize an increase in maturity and the knowledge of the people with intellectual disabilities who attended the program "We all are campus". It is concluded that there are several aspects that are relevant to the families, among them, the optimism and support that their relatives need in the face of the uncertainty of their future.

    The relative age effect on the selection of young athletes and the performance of Brazilian futsal teams

    Objetivo: El objetivo del presente estudio es evaluar el efecto de la edad relativa en la selección de los atletas jóvenes y el rendimiento de los equipos de fútbol sala. Métodos: Se recopiló la fecha de nacimiento de 2.676 jóvenes atletas (femeninos: n=292; masculinos=2.384) que jugaban en las categorías Sub-9 a Sub-20 de fútbol sala brasileño. Los atletas fueron categorizados en base al cuartil y al semestre de nacimiento. La posición final de los equipos en el torneo fue categorizada como finalista, semifinalista y no semifinalista. Se aplicó la prueba chi-cuadrada, el V de Cramer y los modelos de regresión logística multinómica. Resultados: Los datos apoyaron la hipótesis sobre la tendencia a seleccionar atletas que nacieron en los primeros meses del añoen equipos masculinos, pero no se observó lo mismo en equipos femeninos. Además, sólo los atletas de la categoría Sub-13 que nacieron en el primer semestre del año presentaran un 50% de posibilidades de estar entre los finalistas del torneo cuando se comparan con sus compañeros. Aplicaciones prácticas: La edad relativa tuvo efecto en el equipo de atletas masculinos jóvenes, pero tal efecto no se asoció con el rendimiento positivo de los equipos de fútbol sala, excepto para la categoría Sub-13. Por lo tanto, se recomienda a los entrenadores de atletas jóvenes valorar otros factores en el momento para seleccionar y componer sus equipos dentro del contexto evaluado aquí
