A Bibliometric Analysis of Sustainability Education in Tourism Universities
(2023) Santos Jaén, José Manuel; León Gómez, Ana; Mora Forero, Jorge Alexander; Economía Financiera y Contabilidad
There is growing interested in the analysis of academic training in the sustainable field of tourism. However, no explicit body of knowledge has focused on evaluating the performance of a scientific activity in this field. Accordingly, this study systematically reviews academic research on the sustainability of the educational background in tourism universities through a bibliometric analysis. For this purpose, bibliometric tools related to research activity impact indicators and analysis of coauthorship networks and keywords have been used. The results show that the topic analysed is recent and that the number of publications continues to grow. They also show that only some academics have addressed this topic, which implies that more research is needed. Therefore, in this framework, thematic specialization could be a strategic option. Researchers can use these results to approach future studies about suggested research avenues better.

Actions for the Conservation and Restoration of the Dunes and Wetlands in the Salinas of San Pedro del Pinatar: LIFE-Salinas Project (Murcia, Southeast of Spain)
(MDPI, 2022-09-28) Ballesteros Pelegrín, G.A.; García Marín, R.; Ibarra Marinas, D.; Sánchez Balibrea, J.; Belmonte Serrato, F.; Zamora López, A.; Fernández Ramos, J.F.; Martínez Arnal, N.; Geografía
The LIFE SALINAS project, co-financed by the European Union, aims for the conservation and improvement of the protected area named the Regional Park of Las Salinas and Arenales de San Pedro del Pinatar (Region of Murcia, Spain). The main objectives are, among others, to stop the erosion of the dunes in front of a 500 m long beach and to expand the breeding habitat of aquatic birds. Between the dune and the beach, a barrier was placed to protect the dune from the effects of storms. The dunes were fenced, placed with sand traps and revegetation was carried out with native species in the most degraded areas. Within the salt pans, 1800 m of new sandy dikes were built to separate the salt ponds. The results have been the recovery of the dune ecosystem and the increase in the population of nesting aquatic birds and other species, as well as an increase in the quality and production of salt.

Agrobiodiversity and associated trophic interactions as an indicator of sustainability in productive systems
(Universidad de Murcia. Servicio de publicaciones + SEAE y SOCLA, 2022) Taraborelli, Paula; Carrasco, Natalia; Malaspina, Micaela; Dominguez, Marta Cecilia; Scavone, Andrea; Zamora, Martin; Sin departamento asociado
Biodiversity is crucial in agroecosystems, as it makes them more efficient, stronger, productive and resilient. The aim of this work was to determine and compare the existing biodiversity in two different pro-duction systems: agroecological and industrial during 2018 and 2019 in the INTA Barrow (Buenos Aires, Argentina). Sampling of mammals, birds, arthropods and spontaneous vegetation were made in wheat and oat crops. Several parameters were estimated including abundance, density, richness, dominance, diversity and equitivity for each study group. The agroecological system presented higher density of birds and mammals, richness of arthropods and spontaneous species compared to the industrial system. The greater agricultural diversification in the agroecological system evidenced a more complex landscape structure, through the increase in the richness of spontaneous species and beneficial fauna that would increase the potential for biotic regulation of the system.

An examination of attitudes and perceptions of Spanish business and accounting students toward corporate social responsibility and sustainability themes
(2018) Larrán, Manuel; Andrades, Javier; Herrera, Jesús
This paper examines the attitudes and perceptions of business and accounting students toward corporate social responsibility and sustainability and what are the main variables for explaining differences in such attitudes and perceptions. Secondly, we compare the results of our study with those of the previous liter- ature to determine whether there are differences depending on cultural, socioeconomic and legal forces. To accomplish this task, a survey was administered to be fulfilled by Spanish business and accounting students. In total, we received 319 surveys duly responded. Our results show that business and account- ing students surveyed in our research have manifested a greater concern for the social and environmental dimensions of the corporate social responsibility and sustainability term. Meanwhile students surveyed in previous studies showed a strong commitment to the economic dimension of the corporate social responsibility and sustainability concept. Such differences are supported by cultural, socioeconomic and legal forces as well as by the institutional commitment of the university

    Moreno Yus, M. A.; Bolarin Martinez, M. J.; Didáctica y Organización Escolar

Are citizens willing to pay for the ecosystem services supported by Common Agricultural Policy? A non-market valuation by choice experiment
(Elsevier, 2023-10-01) Blasi, Emanuele; Rossi, Eleonora Sofia; Zabala García, José Ángel; Fosci, Lorenzo; Sorrentino, Alessandro; Economía Aplicada
Public attention to the impact of human activities on the environment is growing over time across several sectors, particularly agri-food. In Europe, the agricultural sector's focus on sustainability has influenced EU policies for at least 40 years. The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) has for years been proposing tools, commitments, and incentives to mitigate the over-use of natural resources and to increase or maintain the flow of ecosystem services (ES) provide by agro-ecosystems. In the latest reform (23–27), the EU strengthens the commitments required of farmers for environmental issues. The role of farmers in natural capital management and ES provision seems to be recognized, EU subsidies for farmers seem to be more related to sustainability and well-being concerns of European citizen. However, it is necessary to understand whether society recognizes these benefits and legitimizes this transfer of public money for these purposes. This study aims to evaluate non-farmers citizen preference through a Choice Experiment for the potential higher flows of ES provided by three of the reformulated and new Good Agricultural Environmental Conditions – GAEC. The case study developed in Italy collected data from 185 citizens of the Po Valley, one of the most intensely cultivated areas in Europe. Analyses demonstrated how society recognizes the benefits provided by more sustainable agricultural systems, showing a preference for higher ES flows. The results show that there is a hypothetical value recognized by society for ES attributable to new GAECs that will be implemented by CAP farmers. In the case study, this value is higher than what farmers currently receive for general environmental purposes through direct payment for the management of arable land. Analysis it could justify that efforts required by the new CAP reform (23–27) to the farmers to achieve sustainable agricultural systems could be compensate and supported by positive citizens valuation.

Arquitectura reinventadas.

Assessing the Provisions for Sustainability in Economics Degree Programmes
(Emerald, 2024-01-08) Leal Filho, Walter; Dinis, Maria Alzira Pimenta; Morales, Maria F.; Semitiel-García, María; Noguera-Méndez, Pedro; Ruiz de Maya, Salvador; Alarcón del Amo, María del Carmen; Esteban-Lloret, Nuria Nevers; Pemartín, María; Economía Aplicada
Purpose Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) offer courses and programmes focusing on sustainability in economics, as courses on sustainable development (SD), which examine the economic, social and environmental dimensions of SD. This article examines sustainability integration in economics degree programmes. Design/methodology/approach Through an extensive literature review in Web of Science (WoS) and information search in Google, conducting to 28 relevant case studies, the article elucidates the emphasis given to sustainability as part of economics degree programmes in HEIs. FindingsFindings The results suggest that, whereas the inclusion of sustainability components in this field is a growing trend, much still needs to be done in order to ensure that matters related to SD are part of the routine of university students studying economics. Originality The novelty of this study lies in addressing sustainability with the specific economics focus programmes within the HEIs context. Research limitations/implications It is worth noting that the literature review conducted in WoS was primarily aimed at assisting in the selection of university case studies. The 28 university case studies scrutinised in this study may lack sufficient representation from numerous developing countries. Practical implications This study highlights challenges in integrating the SD into economics degree programmes, suggesting the need for curriculum adjustments as underscoring operational issues, acting as barriers. The inclusion of sustainability in economics programmes must navigate operational issues stemming from packed timetables and busy schedules, requiring innovative solutions. Social implications As far as the authors are aware, this study holds substantial importance in its emphasis on implementing sustainability within HEIs' economics programmes, assisting in pursuing SD.

Bibliometric study of the link between Sustainability and Circular Economy : A contribution for current business model from the collaboration Enterprise-University
(Universidad de Murcia, Servicio de publicaciones, 2023) Gallardo Vázquez, Dolores; Cruz Sánchez Domínguez, Juan de la
A business model (BM) is a new unit of analysis distinct from the product or the company, with broader boundaries than the traditional way to regard a company. More exactly, it can be defined as a systemic and integrated view to create and deliver value to its customers. However, issues related to social and environmental aspects have been neglected by the BM approach. Most of the traditional business models(BMs) have only one goal, which is to create financially profitable companies. This narrowness of mind has been tackled by several authors due to the rising of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategies, which have been amplified, due to the rising of the Circular Economy (CE) paradigm. CSR actions are part of predominantly linear BMs, in which the overall achievement of the organization has been measured following the grade of implementation of said measures. The literature demonstrates that the CSR actions applied have been effective. However, we must question whether this is enough, and that leads us to three questions linking CSR and sustainability with BMs under a triple theoretical framework*.* Owing tothe need to study the change of model, the goal of this paper is to perform a bibliometric analysis of the existing literature about CSR, sustainability, and CE simultaneously which can help us to put the need forand importance of this line of research into context. This paper is also a contribution for the new BMs thatstem from the collaboration between enterprises and Universities.

Circular Economy and Social Sustainability : A Transdisciplinary Approach to the Basque Country´s automotive sector
(Universidad de Murcia, Servicio de Publicaciones, 2023) Garayar Erro, Ahinoa; Aldaz Odriozola, Maider; Díaz de Junguitu González de Durana, Alberto
This paper contributes to the debate of the circular economy (CE) through understanding how this concept is constructed and linked to the sustainability triple-axis. We aim to observe if the way the term is defined by scholars is in line with the definitions and discourse emanating from the actors involved in our analysis. Based on the Responsible Research and Innovation framework, we held two meetings with stakeholders in the Basque Countryt’s automotive sector. The results reflect that there is no single way of understanding the concept, either among the agents studied nor in the academic literature, since although many concordances exist, various discrepancies have emerged. However, we do observe a general pattern, in that the social axis of sustainability is cornered, while the environmental and economic axis are at the centre of CE concept.

Climate justice: the contribution of higher education institutions
(Springer, 2025-04-12) Leal Filho, Walter; Kim, Eundeok; Palau‑Salvador, Guillermo; Aránguiz‑Mesías, Pablo; Oyedeji, Shola; Molera Peris, Lourdes; Semitiel‑García, María; Ruiz‑de‑Maya, Salvador; Moradi, Amir; Viera Trevisan, Lais; Economía Aplicada
The concept of climate justice extends traditional environmentalism by emphasizing the social dimensions of environmental issues. Recently, it has gained much attention due to the growing impacts of climate change, especially on vulnerable communities that contribute minimally to global emissions. Based on the need for research in this feld, this paper reports on a study that examined how higher education institutions (HEIs) are integrating climate justice into education, based on a literature review and a set of case studies. These cases highlight actions undertaken by various HEIs to incorporate climate justice into education across the globe. Based on the increasing number of publications, the fndings show a growing research interest in the topic and reveal that some countries such as the US, the UK, China, Australia, and Germany have a visible presence in the literature. It also provides a wide range of perspectives on educational practices in climate justice, including real-world examples of courses implemented in HEIs. The fndings reveal that HEIs have signifcant potential to address climate justice in their educational programs, which may help to transform students’ values and actions despite challenges.
