Methodologically, this article takes this work by Torregrossa as a starting point to confirm how, for the most part, Sicilian women have shaped their multifaceted identity in the kitchen, that is, in a cultural and gastronomic space crucial for the well-being and progress of the family. However, by commending herself to the saint and manifesting the discursive power of medical humanities, the author of the text also features the matter of breast cancer within the Sicilian female context: the integrity of breasts, a symbolic identity of femininity, seemed to depend on the dictates of a saint who had to be venerated with idolatry, wisdom and profound respect.
