One of Saavedra Fajardo's biggest worries was the impoverishment of Castile due to extremes, to sustaining far-away provinces such as Flanders. In this article, the author demonstrates that the questioning of Spain's foreign policy was already existent in the last courts of Castile, where mostly the group of city solicitors «that were unwell» supported a policy that would abandon or cancel war.

In this article, following a reflection on the cognoscitive character of myth, the reading that Juan Sempere y Guarinos did of Saavedra Fajardo between 18th-19th centuries is offered. Sempere conceived the baroque author as a genius representative of what he called «sublime politics», over which concept the author of this text reflects on the heels of Empresas políticas [Political Maxims].
