Mesa 3. Nudo 2. Sujeto y saber.-En primera persona. A propósito de las relaciones entre retórica, filosofía y subjetividad en los inicios de la Modernidad

Abstract

Resumen: La crítica atribuye a Michel de Montaigne un papel destacado en el surgimiento de la idea de sujeto. Los mismos autores que recurren a este tópico contraponen al ensayista francés con el filósofo René Descartes, oponiendo a la pluralidad del yo de los ensayos el abstracto ego cartesiano. A nuestro juicio las relaciones entre ambos autores y su contexto son mucho más complejas y se dibujan sobre un trasfondo habitualmente descuidado, el del sistema retórico que impero en la época pre-moderna. El estudio de la relación crítica de ambos autores con este paradigma contribuirá a iluminar sus mutuos vínculos, cercanías y diferencias.

Abstract: Critics give to Michel de Montaigne an outstanding paper in the sprouting of the subject idea. The same authors who resort to this topic oppose the French writer to the philosopher René Descartes, opposing the plurality of the self into the essays to the abstract cartesian ego. In our opinion the relations between both authors and their context are much more complex and they draw themselves on a background usually neglected, the rhetorical system that reign at the pre-modern time. The study of the critical relation of both authors with this paradigm will contribute to illuminate their mutual bonds, similarities and differences.
