Representación de un pianoforte de mesa español en las colecciones del Museo Nacional del Prado. El pianero Juan del Mármol

Abstract

Nos encontramos ante el magistral retrato del músico y compositor Félix Antonio Máximo López Crespo realizado en 1820 por el pintor Vicente López Portaña, hoy atesorado en la colección permanente del Museo Nacional del Prado (Inv. P04405); la representación de un músico respetado, apoyado sobre un instrumento musical de tecla valorado. Podemos afirmar la tipología y autoría de aquel instrumento que sirvió como modelo. Un pianoforte de mesa que le acompañó durante décadas y que el pintor inmortaliza sobre el lienzo. Gracias a su testimonio se consolida la figura de Juan del Mármol como máximo exponente en la fabricación de pianofortes de mesa nacionales en el último cuarto del siglo XVIII. En definitiva, el primer organista de la Real Capilla en tiempos de Carlos IV era propietario de un pianoforte de mesa del pianero pensionado por su Majestad, Juan del Mármol, que no le importaba mostrar para enaltecer sus cualidades musicales.

We are dealing with the masterful portrait of the musician and composer Felix Antonio Máximo López Crespo made in 1820 by the painter Vicente López Portaña, now treasured in the permanent collection of the Prado National Museum (Inv. P04405); the representation of a respected musician, leaned on a valued keyboard musical instrument. The typology and authorship of that instrument that served as a model can be affirmed. A pianoforte which accompanied him for decades and that the painter immortalized on canvas. Thanks to his testimony, the figure of Juan del Mármol as the maximum exponent in the manufacture of national pianofortes in the last quarter of the 18th century is consolidated. In short, the first organist of the Royal Chapel in the times of Carlos IV was the owner of a pianoforte manufactured by this piano maker granted by his Majesty, Juan de el Mármol, who didn’t mind showing the instrument to enhance his musical qualities.
