Los libros no heredados de la familia Riquelme-Arce en 1843

Abstract

El artículo aborda el estudio de la biblioteca particular de una familia de la aristocracia murciana de la primera mitad del siglo XIX. Para ello se utiliza como fuente de información primordial el inventario post mortem de Antonio Riquelme Fontes fechado en 1843. Esta fuente notarial y su cotejo con el inventario de 1800 elaborado tras la muerte de su progenitor han permitido deslindar la colección heredada de los fondos modernos de más reciente adquisición. De esta manera se ha podido establecer la cuantía de la colección moderna, el carácter marcadamente instructivo de la misma y la presencia de impresos franceses, un reflejo de la galofilia decimonónica. Pero, además, se pone en evidencia que estamos ante una biblioteca compartida, al servicio de las necesidades lectoras de todos los miembros de la familia Riquelme-Arce. Finalmente se da una visión de conjunto de la biblioteca heredada y la moderna, y su comparación con otras bibliotecas de la época.

The article deals with the study of the private library of a Murcian aristocratic family in the first half of the 19th century. To this end, the post-mortem inventory of Antonio Riquelme Fontes, dated 1843, is used as a source of primary information. This notarial source and its comparison with the 1800 inventory drawn up after the death of his father, have allowed the inherited collection of modern funds of earliest acquisition to be demarcated. Thus it has been possible to establish the modern collection amount, its markedly instructive nature and the presence of French prints, a reflection of nineteenth-century galofilia. But, in addition, it is evident that we are facing a shared library, at the service of the reading needs of all the members of the Riquelme-Arce family. Finally, there is an overview of the inherited and modern library, and its comparison with other libraries of the time.
