“La última noche de Hipatia”. Ecos áureos y relecturas de la idea de tiempo desde la ciencia ficción

Abstract

En el artículo se analiza la obra de Eduardo Vaquerizo La última noche de Hipatia, valorando el género de la ciencia ficción en general y la subcategoría de los relatos de viajes en el tiempo en particular, al tiempo que se reflexiona brevemente sobre el impacto de ambas modalidades textuales en el ámbito hispano. Respecto a la obra de Vaquerizo, en el artículo se estudia la polifonía narrativa de la novela, el uso de la primera persona desde distintas perspectivas y el valor de los diferentes planos temporales entre los que se mueve la protagonista. Por último, y salvando las distancias de autor, época y estilo, se propone un modelo de análisis del tratamiento del tiempo en la novela a partir de dos referentes textuales muy diferentes, procedentes de la literatura española del Siglo de Oro: por un lado, el Lazarillo de Tormes, con el que se pretende reflexionar sobre la importancia del tiempo, y su discurrir, en la evolución y madurez de la protagonista; y, por otro, algunos de los poemas metafísicos de Francisco de Quevedo, con los que se observan concomitancias en lo concerniente a la interpretación filosófica del tiempo y a los límites entre pasado, presente y futuro.

This article offers an analysis of Eduardo Vaquerizo ́s work La última noche de Hipatia, by assessing not only the science fiction genre but also the subcategory of time travels and by considering briefly the impact of both textual categories in the Hispanic world. Regarding Vaquerizo ́s work, the article studies the narrative polyphony in the novel, the usage of the multi first-person point of view and the value of the different time perspectives in which the protagonist finds herself. Finally, and considering the differences in terms of author, epoch and style, the article proposes a model for analysing the idea of time in the novel by comparing it with two different Spanish Golden Age works: on the one hand, Lazarillo de Tormes, which it is used to reflect about the importance of time, and its flow, in relation to the protagonist ́s evolution and maturity; and, on the other hand, some Quevedo ́s metaphysical poems, in order to find similarities about the philosophical interpretation of time and the limits between past, present and future.
