Boileau á l'école du XIXe siècle

Abstract

The article examines the editorial decisions when publishing, in the 19 th century, the Works of Nicolas Boileau intended for young audience. The corpus in- cludes a dozen editions representative, by their diversity, of the various educational programs which occurred at the time. It explores the contribution of the iconographi- cal paratext and the biographical statements in the elaboration of a French cultural identity as much as in nurturing and developing a sense of belonging to a nation, by an ideological classicisation of a man of letters, in the 19 th century’s education system.

L’article étudie le discours éditorial dans la version scolaire des Œuvres de Nicolas Boileau publiées au XIX e siècle. Le corpus regroupe une douzaine d’éditions représentatives, par leur diversité, des programmes éducatifs successifs qui ont marqué la tranche chronologique considérée. Il interroge l’apport du paratexte iconographique et du « savoir biographique » dans l’élaboration d’une identité culturelle française et l’amplification du sentiment d’appartenance à la nation, à partir de la classicisation idéologique d’un homme de lettres, au sein du système éducatif de l’époque.
