ABSTRACT In the last two decades, rural areas have received substantial funding to invest in the tourism sector. Investments have been destined, in many cases, to satisfy the interests of specific municipalities without correctly delimit the tourist destinations and develop a comprehensive plan to create an integrated and competitive tourist destination. This paper analyses, through the tourist destination of Valle de Ricote, how the improvement of the social structure of resident communities (tourist residents, business people, politicians and agents) and their mechanisms of communication, cooperation and consensus, are the fundamental and priority factors for the success of a rural development programme. From the creation of a solid social base, proposes an order of priority of indicators whose future observance ensures the success of a tourist development. |
