El "noventayocho" y la educación. Por la verdadera escuela y la instrucción popular

Abstract

Este estudio nos muestra cómo el discurso pedagógico de principios de siglo destaca la importancia de la educación popular como elemento fundamental para el desarrollo y regeneración nacional, con fuerte crítica hacia la política educativa y la consideración de la escuela como cuestión de biología social. Contexto en el que adquiere sentido la preocupación por la escuela graduada y su concepción educativa, por las condiciones higiénicas y pedagógicas de los locales de escuela, las consideraciones sobre la dignificación profesional y social del magisterio, la reforma de la inspección o la incorporación al Estado de todos los gastos de enseñanza primaria, entre otras.

Abstract: This investigation illustrates the way in which early twentieth century pedagogical resoning outlines the importance of the education of the people as a powerfull instrument in national debelopement and regeneration, to strong criticism of the pedagogical intervention on the part of the politicians in power at the time, and a consideration of the school as a matter of social biology. It is in this contex that acquire significance the concern about the graduate school as a system of organization to which to adjust teaching and its educational conception, the hygienic and pedagogic circunstances of the school premises, the matter of giving professional and social prestige to teaching, the reform of school inspection, the incorporation of the cost of primary education into the Estate Budget, and others.
