Muy señor mío, dueño y amigo. Lengua epistolar y élite social en la correspondencia privada del sureste español (1760-1805)

Abstract

La correspondencia privada constituye un tipo documental privilegiado, pues por su naturaleza se desliza entre la escrituralidad y la oralidad, ofreciendo muestras de un lenguaje menos planificado que el de otros tipos discursivos. Se trata de textos que pueden ser utilizados con ciertas garantías en la investigación sociolingüística histórica al reflejar, con todas las consideraciones que cabe hacerle al registro escrito, las variedades vernáculas orales de la época en que se escribieron. Las cartas nos permiten acceder, por una parte, al tono más familiar, aunque limitado por las reglas elementales que marca la cortesía escrita, en esa mezcla constante entre lo privado y lo público; y por otra, nos ponen en contacto con los usos más formales y estereotipados que establece la distancia social cuando los interlocutores no pertenecen al mismo grupo. Estos documentos ilustran la lengua viva del momento encarnada en personajes reales de los que podemos llegar a conocer todo tipo de información a través de los temas cotidianos y de los profesionales que en cada carta se suceden y entremezclan. Los interlocutores de esta colección documental inédita pertenecen, en distinto grado, al sector más privilegiado de la sociedad del dieciocho, por lo que podremos analizar, teniendo en cuenta el tipo de relación establecida entre emisor y destinatario, más o menos asimétrica, el lenguaje utilizado con la élite desde fuera del grupo, lo que sin duda nos permitirá conocer un poco más los usos lingüísticos de los más ilustrados en esta etapa moderna de la Historia del español.

Private written communication constitute a privileged type of document, as due to their nature, they reside between what is written and oral, offering samples of a less planned language than that of other discursive texts. It is about texts which can be used with certain guarantees in sociolinguistic historical investigation as they reflect, with every consideration to be done about their writing method, the vernacular oral varieties of the time when they were written. Letters allow us to access to, on the one hand, to a more familiar tone, although limited by the elemental rules of written courtesy, in that constant mixture between private and public; and on the other hand, they put us in contact with the most formal and stereotyped uses that social distance establishes when both of the interlocutors do not belong to the same group. These documents illustrate the language of the moment alive and embodied in real characters about whom we are able to know all kinds of information through quotidian and professional themes which are both followed and mixed together in the letters. The interlocutors of this unpublished collection of documents belong to the most privileged sector of the XVIIIth century’s society, thus we will be able to analyze, taking into account the type of relationship established between speaker and addressee, more or less asymmetric, the language used with the elite from outside the group, which doubtlessly will allow us to know the ways of using the language from the most illustrated people in this modern stage of the history of Spanish language.
