El orden de la guerra en Saavedra Fajardo

Abstract

The present article examines the considerations about war in Saavedra Fajardo's thinking, marked in the context contemporary to him that included both the Flanders' and the Thirty-Year's Wars. These are organised around three different axes: the law of those who make war (military discipline), ius in bello (law of war), ius ad bellum (just war). The just cause, inseparably linked to Spain's intended job as guarantor of European peace, arbitrator and police at once, as well as the rumour of a resigned universal control, manifest the vitality of the Spanish imperial sovereignty project in the Fajardian thinking. Completing the image of a tacitistic Saavedra with this of an imperial Saavedra is fundamental to globally understand his political thinking in the context of transit that is his own.

El presente artículo examina las consideraciones sobre la guerra en el pensamiento de Saavedra Fajardo, marcadas en el contexto que le es contemporáneo por las guerras de Flandes y de los Treinta Años, organizándolas en torno a tres ejes: derecho de quienes hacen la guerra (disciplina militar), ius in bello (derecho de gentes), ius ad bellum (guerra justa). La causa justa, inseparablemente unida de la labor pretendida de España como garante de la paz europea, árbitro y policía a un mismo tiempo, así como los ecos de un dominio universal resignado, manifiestan la vitalidad del proyecto de soberanía imperial hispánico en el pensamiento fajardiano. Completar la imagen del Saavedra tacitista con este otro Saavedra imperial es fundamental para la comprensión global de su pensamiento político en el contexto de tránsito que le es propio.
