La Península y el Oriente bizantino: Un broche de cinturón bizantino de Palestina en la colección del Museo d' ́Arqueologia de Catalunya

Abstract

En 1906 la Junta de Museus de Barcelona adquirió al pintor Antonio Estruch un broche de cinturón de tipo bizantino que dicho pintor había comprado durante su lar - ga estancia en Palestina. Estruch había recorrido todos los lugares bíblicos para tomar apuntes al natural que servirían para sus obras sobre la vida de Jesús. El artículo recoge la historia de este objeto y hace un estudio sobre la distribución y cronología de este tipo de broches –D7 según Schulze-Dörrlamm– en el Mediterráneo; a la par que repasa brevemente los hallazgos de los broches similares en la Península Ibérica. n 1906 the Junta de Museus of Barcelona acquired a Byzantine belt buckle from the painter Antonio Estruch which he had purchased during his long stay in Palestine. Estruch visited all the biblical sites to prepare drawings which he used for his paintings in the live of Jesus. The article deals with the history of the object as well as with the archaeological study of the typo-chronological order and geographical of such belt buckles –D7 según Schulze-Dörrlamm– in the Mediterranean area, at the same time a brief review of findings of similar brooches of Byzantine origin on the Iberian Peninsula is given. Finally, Estruch’s belt buckle is seen in the context of the site of its probable origin, Bet Guvrin
