Profesión, ciencia y ciudadanía: retos para el Trabajo Social y los Servicios Sociales en el siglo XXI

Abstract

En este artículo, analizamos tres retos que tiene que afrontar el Trabajo Social como disciplina científica y como profesión, en el siglo XXI. En primer lugar, en el ámbito académico, reforzar su cientificidad, estableciendo protocolos de intervención rigurosos y replicables, favoreciendo el desarrollo de la investigación científica. En segundo lugar, en el ámbito de las grandes especializaciones de la disciplina, favorecer el desarrollo del Trabajo Social comunitario en nuestras sociedades del bienestar (en un contexto de crisis económica y mitificación del individualismo neodarwinista); en tercer lugar, tomando en consideración colectivos específicos en situación de vulnerabilidad, afrontar la invisibilidad de los jóvenes en nuestro Estado

In this article, we discuss three challenges facing social work as a scientific discipline and professionin the 21st century. First, in the sphere of academia, it is essential to strengthen the scientific foundations un-derlying social work by establishing rigorous and replicable intervention protocols and promoting scientificresearch. Secondly, in the specialized fields of the discipline, it is necessary to contribute to the developmentof community social work in our welfare societies; particularly in a context of economic crisis and themystification of neo-Darwinian individualism. Finally, we must take greater account of specific vulnerablegroups and address the invisibility of young people in our welfare state.
