In recent decades, the theatre in Quebec has without doubt been the cultural field that has best dealt with matters relating to identities in general, and in particular to homosexual ones. This has contributed to promoting a pluralistic vision of society. Indeed such themes as marginalization, discrimination, desire or the questioning of relationships between partners, friends or relatives, can be found in many plays. Through the analysis of the transgressive and subversive works, La duchesse de Langeais (1968) and Hosanna (1971) by Michel Tremblay, both of which have a political and transvestite component as their central axis, we aim to highlight the great social value of this highly demanding and pedagogical theatre. Certainly, these works contribute greatly in giving insight into the linguistic and cultural differences, as well as to the different identities and sexual orientations, both inside and outside of Quebec.
