Estudios sobre la Descripción de la tierra habitada de Dionisio el Periegeta.

Abstract

Este trabajo consiste en un estudio global de la Descripción de la tierra habitada o Periegesis, poema épico didáctico de 1186 hexámetros, compuesto por Dionisio el Periegeta durante la primera mitad del siglo II d.C. Para el desarrollo de nuestro trabajo nos atenemos al tradicional método filológico, prestando especial atención al texto griego como base de análisis. El estudio se divide en distintos niveles: el poeta, la obra y la época; composición, estructura y elementos literarios; métrica y prosodia; lengua, léxico y estilo; presencia y trascendencia de la mitología y la religión; e importancia de la tradición literaria en la Periegesis, así como su pervivencia en la literatura posterior. Al final de la Tesis añadimos varios anexos complementarios: el texto griego que seguimos; nuestra traducción; el análisis métrico completo; y un breve estudio panorámico de la cartografía en la Antigüedad. Abstract. This work consists in a comprehensive study of the Description of the inhabited earth or Periegesis, an epic didactic poem of 1186 hexameters, composed by Dionysius Periegetes during the first half of the II century A.D. For the development of our work we adhere to the traditional philological methods, with special attention to the greek text as a basis for the analysis. The study is divided into different levels: the poet, the work and the times; composition, structure, and literary elements; metric and prosody; language, vocabulary and style; presence and significance of mythology and religion; and the importance of the literary tradition in the Periegesis, as well as its survival in later literature. At the end of the Thesis we add several supplementary appendices: the greek text that we follow; our translation; the complete metric analysis; and a short panoramic study of cartography in Antiquity.
