Higiene, salud y educación en su perspectiva histórica

Abstract

Higiene, salud y educación han estado unidas desde los orígenes de la humanidad. Esta relación tan estrecha ha revestido formas e intensidades diferentes. La aparición del movimiento higienista, a mediados del siglo XIX, los cambios sociales y educativos ligados al proceso de escolarización, que tuvieron lugar en dicho siglo y en la primera mitad del siglo XX, y el estudio científico de la infancia, desarrollado en el período de entre siglos, propiciaron la creación de sociedades y nuevas profesiones o especialidades profesionales, la proliferación de revistas, libros y folletos y la celebración de congresos, así como la aprobación de disposiciones legales sobre estos temas y la acción pública y privada. En este texto introductorio se da cuenta de todo ello, se presentan los demás trabajos incluidos en este monográfico, se efectúan algunas observaciones sobre la actualmente denominada "educación para la salud", y se añade, en anexo, una cronología de aquellos hechos, publicaciones y disposiciones legales más relevantes en relación con el tema tratado.

Hygiene, health and education have been connected since the origins of mankind. This very close relationship offers different forms and intensities. The apparition of the hygienist movement about the middle of the XIXth century, and the social and educational changes linked to the schooling process that took place in the mentioned century and in the first half of the XXth, as well as the scientific study of the childhood, developped in the intermediate period between both centuries, favoured the creation of new societies and professions or professional specialities, the proliferation of magazines, leaflets and books, the organization of congresses, the passing of several laws about those matters, and the public and private iniciatives. In this prefatory text al! of this is accounted for. Likewise the rest of the texts of this monographical issue are introduced; also some observations about the so called "education for health" are made, and a cronology of more relevant events, publications and laws, related to the subject, is annexed.
