The effects of ~rnilateral olfactor!, depri\,ation on tlie glial population during the olf~lctory h~llh tle\,clopmcnt lin\je hecn sturliecl. The lack of sensor! stimulation has hcen founcl to he related to an increase in gliofihril1;rry acirl protein (GFAP) in the tliree la!ers of tlic rlzprivcd bulbs. This increase is due to the lli~liern umber of aitrocytes in tlie depri\-ecl hulh. \vliicli is m~ ~ cml io re noticeable in the plcxifo~ml ayer than in tlic other t\jlo. together with :I Ii!.pertrol7li! of the rcacti\e irstrocytes resulting in an increase in tlie n~lmher ancl thickness of their prolongation\.
