El viaje de novios en “Fortunata y Jacinta”: ficción, patrimonio y paisaje en Benito Pérez Galdós

Abstract

Las páginas de Fortunata y Jacinta custodian una ficción que Benito Pérez Galdós convirtió en una de las novelas más transcendentes de la literatura española del siglo XIX. Su importancia ha hecho que sea objeto de estudios, abordados por diversas áreas, que han implementado sus aportes e interpretaciones para profundizar más en el conocimiento y difusión de este sublime ejercicio literario. Bajo esta premisa, se decidió analizar el capítulo titulado “Viaje de novios” desde la perspectiva de la historia del arte, rama que aglutina los estudios sobre patrimonio histórico-artístico y cultural, con la finalidad de comparar los espacios, monumentos, paisajes y referentes visitados por la pareja que conformaron Juan Santa Cruz y Jacinta Arnaiz durante los inicios de su matrimonio. Este estudio se ha realizado mediante un análisis del capítulo que ha permitido poner de relieve el influjo de la literatura de viajes en su desarrollo, el mantenimiento y el abandono de fórmulas ensayadas ya por Galdós a la hora de escribir sobre viajes, y la heterogeneidad de los referentes patrimoniales seleccionados, a través de los cuales se puede ofrecer una lectura de la consideración del autor sobre el patrimonio remarcado.

The pages of Fortunata y Jacinta contain a fiction that Benito Pérez Galdós turned into one of the most transcendental novels Spanish literature of the 19th century. Its importance has made it the subject of studies, addressed by various areas, which have implemented their contributions and interpretations in order to further deepen the knowledge and dissemination of this sublime literary work. With this in mind, it was decided to analyse the chapter entitled "Viaje de novios" (The honeymoon) from the perspective of history of art, subject that brings together studies on historical, artistic and cultural heritage with the aim of comparing the spaces, monuments, landscapes and references visited by the couple formed by Juan Santa Cruz and Jacinta Arnaiz during the beginning of their marriage. This study has been carried out by means of an analysis of the chapter, which has made it possible to highlight the influence of travel literature in its development; the maintenance and abandonment of formulas already tried and tested by Galdós when writing about travel, as well as the heterogeneity of the selected heritage references, through which it is possible to offer a reading of the author's consideration of the selected heritage.
