Cohousing Senior : un modelo de convivencia para conocer y aprender desde el Trabajo Social

Abstract

Introducción: el presente estudio nace de la necesidad de profundizar sobre la propuesta de convivencia para personas mayores ofrecida desde el modelo Cohousing Senior y el papel que en su desarrollo ha de ocupar el Trabajo Social. Este modelo permite a las personas mayores gestionar su propia vejez y compartir necesidades de manera comunitaria, ofreciendo una alternativa real para mantener su vida autónoma a la vez que la calidad de vida y el contacto social. Método: se presenta un estudio de enfoque mixto a partir de un cuestionario con el que se explora la percepción y grado de conocimiento de la población general sobre el Cohousing Senior, junto con el desarrollo de entrevistas en profundidad a personas residentes de estos centros, en el que participan un total de 261 sujetos. Resultados: se ha encontrado un elevado desconocimiento general entre la población participante sobre el Cohousing Senior (61%) aun cuando se constata la necesidad por parte de la mayoría de un cambio en los modelos residenciales actuales. Se identifican los aspectos positivos y negativos que surgen en su creación y desarrollo, así como la necesidad de mayor compromiso por parte de las administraciones públicas. Conclusiones: el Cohousing Senior ofrece un modelo de convivencia que permite un envejecimiento de calidad emocional y social. Se considera que esta experiencia debe estar al alcance de todas las personas con el debido acompañamiento profesional y el compromiso de las administraciones públicas.

Introduction: this study arises from the need to deepen the proposal for the elderly living together offered by the Senior Cohousing model and the role that Social Work must play in its development. This model allows the elderly to manage their own aging and share their needs in a com-munitarian way, offering a real alternative to maintain their autonomous life while maintaining their quality of life and social contact. Method: a mixed-approach study has been introduced based on a questionnaire to explore the perception and degree of knowledge of the general population about Senior Cohousing, together with the development of in-depth interviews with residents of these centers, in which a total of 261 subjects participated. Results: it has been found that there is a high general lack of knowledge among the participating population about Senior Cohousing (61%), even though the need for a change in the current residential models is noted on the part of most of them. The positive and negative aspects that arise in its creation and development are identified, as well as the need for greater commitment on the part of public administrations. Conclusions: Senior Cohousing offers a model of coexistence that allows an emotional and social quality aging. It has been concluded that this experience should be available to all people with the appropriate professional accompaniment and the commitment of public administrations.
