Educación y envejecimiento: también luce el crepúsculo y el desierto florece

Abstract

El presente artículo reflexiona acerca de lo que podría ocultarse o silenciarse en los discursos sobre la vejez y el envejecimiento. La pregunta clave en torno a la cual gira es: ¿Se están relegando dimensiones antropológicas fundamentales en el teorizar sobre la vejez y en el actuar con las personas de edad? ¿Se excluyen aspectos nucleares en los parámetros del “envejecer bien”? Dado que eso parece suceder, es preciso recuperar tales dimensiones y, a la vez alertar sobre el riesgo de crear “nuevos clichés” excluyentes sobre la vejez. Es necesario evitar que se hurten espacios para el crecimiento personal y social a través de mensajes reduccionistas, que cierran caminos a una educación integral y un desarrollo humano pleno.

The present article tries to bring out what sometimes is hidden or silenced when speaking about old age and aging. The key questions are: Are fundamental anthropological aspects been left out when theorizing on old age and on the ways aged people act? Are nuclear aspects included when talking about good aging? If those aspects are not taken into account it would be necessary to recover those dimensions and, at the same time warn about the dangers of new exclusive clichés on old age. It is necessary to prevent the stealing of proper spaces for social and individual growth through reductionist messages that block the way to full education and personal development.
