El entramado de la libertad : un estudio sobre Axel Honneth y Christoph Menke

Abstract

El presente trabajo busca el maridaje productivo entre dos propuestas filosóficas —las de Axel Honneth y Christoph Menke— en el que pueda desvelarse lo que se llama-rá el entramado de la libertad. El tratamiento de ambos autores es, sin embargo, de-sigual, pues se trata de buscar la complementariedad del segundo con el primero en base a sus limitaciones, es decir, las limitaciones de un “derecho de la libertad” en ba-se a la comprensión de la “libertad como liberación”. Las dos referencias centrales pa-ra este programa son Das Recht der Freiheit (2011) —de Axel Honneth— y Theorie der Befrreiung (2022) —de Christoph Menke—, y su punto de partida es la caracteriza-ción de sus dos aproximaciones a (o “inspiraciones” en) la obra de Hegel. Si bien la de Honneth se centra en los males o malestares de las sociedades contemporáneas sin sostenerse en abstracciones normativistas moralizantes, sino en la propia estructura de la normatividad inmanente a las mismas sociedades en base a la noción de “liber-tad social”, la de Menke, por otro lado, apuesta por la concepción general de que las contradicciones conceptuales de la realidad deben emerger ya en el pensarlas filosófi-camente, de forma que los atolladeros y callejones sin salida se enfrenten, discutan y, en ocasiones, incluso se asuman como inevitables, este es el camino que lleva a la ne-cesidad de comprender la “libertad como liberación” (radical). Esto es lo que quieren ofrecer los dos primeros capítulos (1 y 2) de este trabajo bajo las rúbricas, respecti-vas, de una terapéutica sin reconciliación y una dialéctica sin superación (Parte I). El siguiente paso en la argumentación (Interludio) es mostrar las limitaciones inevi-tables del marco teórico de un “derecho de la libertad” —el de Honneth— y como, a partir de aquí puede iniciarse un estudio más amplio: el del entramado de la libertad. Este trabajo, por tanto, no es un estudio (conceptual) sobre la libertad en el marco de una teoría de la justicia —o de la realización de un derecho de la libertad—, sino un estudio sobre el entramado (de la libertad) que quiere apuntar a un análisis de la so-ciedad que atisbe la posibilidad de plantearse recoger sus diferentes dimensiones. Por eso el resto del estudio no extiende el análisis de la sociedad de Honneth, sino que se dirige precisamente a replantear sus contornos —en base al planteamiento teórico (e incluso objeciones) de Menke—, y esto quiere decir: articular de otra forma la rela-ción entre (pre-)subjetividad y normatividad (social). Esta segunda parte (Parte II) se dirige, específicamente, a los escritos psicoanalíti-cos de Honneth y a su teoría del reconocimiento, si bien (re)planteando para cada uno las debidas reorientaciones en base a los estudios de Menke sobre “lo estético” y la segunda naturaleza de lo social, respectivamente (capítulos 3 y 4). Tras este reco-rrido se muestra en un Balance de resultados que concluye con una serie de “proyec-ciones” (a modo de conclusión) que intentan desvelar los cabos sueltos o caminos no seguido que quizá el propio estudio requería. El entramado de la libertad —el objeto de estudio de este trabajo— se configura como el entramado de subjetividad y nor-matividad —el que va de la primera a la segunda en continuos caminos de ida y vuel-ta— en medio del cual se juega la posibilidad de nuestra libertad. Una libertad que caminará de la mano de las nociones centrales de ambos autores —finalmente como libertad (en lo) social y libertad como liberación radical (de lo social)— y que en su tratamiento se apostará una relación dialéctica entre ambas: entre la perspectiva tera-péutica (sin reconciliación) y la dialéctica (sin superación).

The present work seeks the productive marriage between two philosophical pro-posals—those of Axel Honneth and Christoph Menke— in the context of which what will be called the fabric of freedom. The treatment of both authors is, however, une-qual, or unbalanced, since the object is seeking the complementarity of the second with the first based on its limitations, that is, the limitations of a “freedom’s right” based on the understanding of “freedom as liberation”. The two central references for this program are Axel Honneth’s Das Recht der Freiheit (2011) and Christoph Menke's Theorie der Befreiung (2022), and their starting point is the characterization of their two approaches to (or “inspirations” in) Hegel's work. On the one hand, Honneth’s fo-cuses on the malaise of contemporary societies, without relying on moralizing and normativist abstractions, but on the very structure of the normativity immanent to the societies themselves based on the notion of “social freedom”. On the other hand, Men-ke’s focuses bets on the general conception that the conceptual contradictions of ac-tuality must already emerge in thinking about them philosophically, so that quagmires and dead ends are confronted, discussed, and sometimes even assumed to be inevita-ble, this is the path that leads to the need to understand “freedom as (radical) libera-tion”. This is what the first two chapters want to offer under the respective titles of a therapeutics without reconciliation and a dialectic without overcoming (Part I). The next step in the argument (Interlude) is to show the inevitable limitations of the theoretical framework of a “freedom’s right” —Honneth— and how, from here, a broader study can begin: the fabric of freedom. This work, therefore, is not a (concep-tual) study of freedom within the framework of a theory of justice —or of the realiza-tion of freedom’s right— but a study of the fabric (or entanglement of freedom) that aims at an analysis of society that illuminate the possibility of considering its different dimensions. That is the reason why the rest of the study does not extend Honneth’s analysis of society, but rather aims precisely at rethinking its contours —based on Menke’s theoretical approach (and even objections)— and this means: articulating in a different way the relationship between (pre-)subjectivity and (social) normativity. This second part (Part II) is specifically addressed to Honneth’s psychoanalytic writings and his theory of recognition, although (re)proposing for each the appropri-ate reorientations based on Menke’s studies on “the aesthetic” and the second nature of the social, respectively (chapters 3 and 4). After this way, the Balance show the of results before some “projections” (by way of conclusion) that try to unveil the loose ends or paths not followed. The fabric or entanglement of freedom—the object of study of this work—is configured as the network of subjectivity and normativity—the one that goes from the first to the second in continuous paths back and forth—in the middle of which the possibility of our freedom is at stake. A freedom that will go hand in hand with the central notions of both authors—finally as freedom in the social and freedom as radical liberation from the social—and that in its treatment will bet on a dialectical relationship between the two: between the therapeutic perspective (without reconciliation) and the dialectic (without sublation).
