dc.description.abstract | Biological naturalism’s ontology of the mental decisively depends on the notion of causality. However, Searle does not embed this notion in his ontology in dialogue with the relevant scientific and philosophical literature, but rather guided by a certain sort of intuitive verisimilitude. Taking Bunge’s general ontology as a background, we discuss the difficulties arising from Searle’s shallow treatment of causality, focusing on those related to his attempt to present the relation of emergence in causal terms and, therefore, to postulate emergent properties as candidates for causal relata | es |
