Abstract

Mireille Gagné (Isle-aux-Grues, 1982), escritora eminente en el panorama de la literatura quebequense actual, publica en 2022 Bois de fer, un conjunto de fragmentos poéticos narrados por un sujeto mujer-árbol. Gagné define esta obra como un texto ecológico y mordaz que mantiene hasta el final la esperanza de generar una nueva vida, salvándola de la extinción. En este artículo analizamos cómo Gagné muestra una profunda conexión con la tierra para concienciar al lector de la opresión sistémica que ejercen los humanos hacia otras formas de vida. Mediante una perspectiva post-humana, exploramos cómo este arraigo telúrico se basa en una aprehensión horizontal de la existencia que la literatura permite potenciar a través de la mirada afectuosa hacia el otro y de la imaginación empática. Igualmente, y desde una mirada ecocrítica, examinamos cómo el yo poético-narrativo evoca la enfermedad ecológica del planeta provocada por el sistema capitalista actual, que conduce a la destrucción, alertando al lector sobre la gravedad de la situación con la esperanza de poder revertirla a tiempo.

Mireille Gagné (Isle-aux-Grues, 1982), an eminent writer in the current Quebecois literary landscape, publishes Bois de fer in 2022, a collection of poetic fragments narrated by a femaletree subject. Gagné defines this work as an ecological and biting text that maintains hope until the end, aiming to generate new life and save it from extinction. In this article, we analyse how Gagné demonstrates a profound connection with the Earth to raise the reader’s awareness of the systemic oppression exerted by humans towards other forms of life. Through a posthuman perspective, we explore how this earthly rootedness is based on a horizontal apprehension of existence that literature allows to enhance through an affectionate gaze and empathetic imagination towards the other. Similarly, from an ecocritical standpoint, we examine how the narrative poetic voice evokes the ecological illness of the planet caused by the current capitalist system, leading to destruction, while alerting the reader to the gravity of the situation with the hope of being able to reverse it in time.
