La representación de estereotipos judíos en la iconografía de la Baja Edad Media

Abstract

El desarrollo temático, el cual queda enmarcado en las próximas líneas del presente artículo, se centra en el horizonte de la visión nociva que tenía el judío en el contexto socio-cultural de Baja Edad Media, donde este colectivo había de ser perseguido y/o discriminado debido al falso pretexto cristiano sobre la acusación hacia el Pueblo de Israel como culpable de la muerte de Cristo. Suponiendo así la aparición de esa imagen peyorativa del hebreo como un ente dañino, tanto para la sociedad de la época como para la Cristiandad. Por tanto, se atiende a la tradición iconográfica bajomedieval, donde a través de estereotipos preconcebidos nacidos de esa “cuestión judía”, se perfila una serie de rasgos fisiológicos, culturales y religiosos los cuales quedan plasmados una vez tras otra en dicha línea tradicional iconográfica.

The thematic development, which is framed in the next lines of this article, focuses on the horizon of the harmful vision that the Jew had in the socio-cultural context of the Late Middle Ages, where this collective was to be persecuted and/or discriminated against because of the false Christian pretext for accusing the People of Israel as guilty of the death of Christ. Thus supposing the appearance of that pejorative image of the Hebrew as a harmful entity, both for the society of the time and for Christianity. Therefore, the low-medieval iconographic tradition is attended, where through preconceived stereotypes born of that “Jewish question”, a series of physiological, cultural and religious traits are outlined which are reflected again and again in this traditional iconographic line.
