La participación de las mujeres republicanas en la Guerra civil española: de milicianas a soldados

Abstract

Durante la Guerra Civil Española, la mujer republicana participó activamente ya fuera en la retaguardia o en el frente. La figura de la miliciana ha pasado a la historia ya que supuso un cambio en la imagen de la mujer, llegando a protagonizar numerosos carteles y sirviendo como instrumento político. Sin embargo, en este trabajo veremos los problemas a los que se enfrentaron estas milicianas, resaltando tanto su auge como su pronta decadencia. Pese a que se ha afirmado que la mujer desaparece del frente a partir de 1937, lo cierto es que algunas llegaron a formar parte del Ejército Popular Republicano. De algunas de ellas conocemos los suficientes datos como para realizar una breve biografía, incidiendo en su participación en el frente tras la militarización de las milicias. Estas mujeres soldado, que no fueron muchas, llegaron a ocupar cargos que hasta entonces habían sido ocupados únicamente por hombres, como los de sargento o teniente. Por tanto, por un lado, se estudia la figura de la miliciana y lo que supuso en su contexto, incidiendo especialmente en la campaña de desprestigio que sufrieron desde finales de 1936, llegando a acusarlas de prostitutas y de transmitir enfermedades venéreas. Por otro lado, se analiza la permanencia de algunas mujeres en las milicias y su posterior incorporación al Ejército Republicano, pasando de milicianas a soldado. De igual manera, se realiza un breve estudio sobre la represión que sufrieron estas mujeres, una represión distinta de la que sufrieron los hombres, debido a que su finalidad era la reeducación social.

During the Spanish Civil War, republican women actively took part, either in the rearguard or in the front lines. The figure of the miliciana has gone down in history, mainly because of the fact that it meant a change in the image of women. They even appeared in many posters serving as a political instrument. However, in this work we will examine what problems they faced, highlighting their rise and their early decline. Despite the fact that it has been affirmed that women disappeared from the front lines after 1937, the truth is that some of them joined the Republican Army. We know enough information about some of them, so it has been possible to create a brief biography about their life and their participation in the front lines after the militarization of the milicias. Even though there weren’t many of them, these female soldiers came to occupy positions that, until then, had been held only by men, such as sargeant and lieutenant. Therefore, the figure of the miliciana is studied and also what it meant in her context, especially the discredit they suffered during the late 1936. They were accused of being prostitutes and transmitting venereal diseases. On the other hand, we analyse the permanence of some women in the milicias and their subsequent incorporation into the Republican Army, transforming from milicianas to soldiers. This work also studies briefly the repression these women suffered. This repression was different from the one that men suffered, due to the fact that the purpose of this repression was social re-education.
