Abstract

El conflicto emocional entre el mundo real y el universo imaginario es el eje vertebrador de la acción en Náufragas, relato breve de Emilia Pardo Bazán. El espacio urbano del Madrid de inicios del siglo xx se convierte en un laberíntico tormento para la viuda y las hijas de un boticario de provincias. Su frustración al no encontrar un empleo conforme a su estatus de clase media genera un movimiento inarmónico que revela la profunda distancia que existe entre el mundo real y el universo imaginado. El enfrentamiento entre ambos mundos conduce a un entorno incógnito e inseguro, irremediablemente subordinado a los vaivenes de la realidad circundante.

The emotional conflict between the real world and the imaginary universe is the central axis of the action in Náufragas, a short story by Emilia Pardo Bazán. In the beginning of the 20th the urban space becomes a labyrinthine torment for the widow and daughters of a provincial apothecary. The effort of not finding a job according to their middle-class status generates a tortuous and inharmonic movement that reveals how deep the distance between the reality and the dreamed universe is. The confrontation between both worlds leads to an incognito and insecure environment that is inevitably subordinate to the vicissitudes of the surrounding reality.
