Paleoarte y naturaleza : análisis historiográfico del paisaje neandertal

Abstract

Esta tesis arranca con un enclave conceptual y metodológico de la disciplina artística llamada Paleoarte, que es la que visibiliza, mediante imágenes, el material de estudio que precisamos para analizar el cambio de la visión del Neandertal y su paisaje a lo largo de la historia. Emprendemos la tarea dogmática de disertar sobre naturaleza del Paleoarte como arte público, así como sobre su historia, metodología, herramientas, problemática y fuentes de diversa índole que ponen en marcha su quehacer historiográfico, paisajístico y divulgativo. Abordamos también el paradigma del concepto de Naturaleza y Paisaje incardinado en la cultura, la Historia, la Geografía y la Historia del Arte, para ensamblar al Paleoarte sobre el recorrido artístico del paleopaisaje. En la segunda parte de la tesis, se realiza una revisión crítica del concepto de Neandertal y su paisaje a partir de los diversos materiales iconográficos, y de nuestros propios resultados paleoantropológicos y paleobotánicos, atendiendo también a las derivaciones y cambios que ha experimentado a lo largo de la Ciencia y según los registros fósiles y los últimos balances de cada período de expresión iconográfica. Los registros fósiles mencionados son enmarcados en correlación con la disciplina científica que los resuelve y en su contexto histórico, geográfico, social y cultural. También son seleccionadas una serie de obras paleoartísticas sobre el Neandertal y su entorno para ser discutidas de forma individual, articulada y exhaustiva, según su marco histórico, paisajístico y a tenor de los últimos descubrimientos que dieron lugar a dicha plasmación gráfica. En tal revisión se pone énfasis de nuevo en el paleopaisaje dualmente: por un lado, revisitando los registros del pasado paisajístico disertando sobre la reconstrucción de ecosistemas neandertales y, por otro lado, trayendo al grueso de la tesis trabajos y métodos empíricos de plasmación paleopaisajística. En este contexto proponemos nuestros propios estudios, tanto de ilustración científica como de Paleoarte, con catenas de paleovegetación y reconstrucciones de paisaje prehistórico desarrollados por la propia doctoranda junto a su equipo de investigación. Algunos de ellos han sido expuestos en comunicaciones a prestigiosos Congresos Internacionales, así como recogidos en publicaciones recientes de divulgación científica de ámbito internacional. Dichas propuestas son fruto de su trabajo en el marco de su equipo de investigación, ECCE HOMO (Evolución, Cenozoico, Cuaternario, Ecología HOMO, Grupo de Investigación E005-11 de la UMU. El presente estudio también aporta una discusión sobre el estado actual de la visión iconográfica referida, planteando una adecuación metodológica para futuros trabajos paleoartísticos sobre el paisaje neandertal.

This thesis starts with a conceptual and methodological mise en scène of the artistic discipline called Paleoart, which is the one that makes visible, through images, the study material that we need so as to analyze a shift in our visions on the Neanderthal and its landscape throughout history. We undertake the dogmatic task of disserting on the nature of Paleoart as public art, as well as on its history, methodology, tools, issues and sources of various kinds that launch its historiographical, landscape and informative work. We also address the paradigm of the concept of Nature and Landscape embedded in culture, History, Geography and Art History, to assemble Paleoart on the artistic journey of the paleolandscape. In the second part of the thesis, a critical review of the Neanderthal concept and its landscape is performed from the various iconographic materials, and from our own paleoanthropological and paleobotanical results, also taking into account the derivations and changes that it has experienced throughout of Science and according to the fossil records and the latest arguments of each period of iconographic expression. The fossil records are framed in correlation with the scientific discipline that solves them and in their historical, geographical, social and cultural context. A series of paleoartistic works on the Neanderthal and their environment are also selected to be discussed individually, articulated and exhaustively, according to their historical and landscape framework and according to the latest discoveries that gave rise to graphic representation. In such revision, emphasis is dually placed on the paleolandscape: on the one hand, revisiting the records of the landscape past, disserting on the reconstruction of Neanderthal ecosystems and, on the other hand, bringing to the bulk of the thesis works and empirical methods of paleolandscape expression. In this context we propose our own studies, both scientific illustration and Paleoart, with paleovegetation catenas and reconstructions of prehistoric landscape developed by the PhD student herself together with her research team. Some of them have been presented in prestigious International Congresses, and published in highly-cited international journals. These proposals are the result of her work under the auspicies of ongoing research projects led by the research team, ECCE HOMO (Evolution, Cenozoic, Quaternary, Ecology HOMO), at Research Group E005-11, University of Murcia. This thesis also provides a discussion about the current state of the aforementioned iconographic vision, proposing a methodological adaptation for future paleoartistic works on the Neanderthal landscape.
