Estudio de la apostasía en la obra de Cipriano de Cartago: el caso de Basílides y Marcial, un suceso perteneciente a las persecuciones religiosas

Abstract

El obispo africano tuvo que hacer frente al principal problema que estuvo presente a lo largo de todo el siglo III en la iglesia española, la apostasía. Basílides y Marcial habían renunciado a Dios tras cometer delitos como la idolatría o la blasfemia, por ello, fueron expulsados de sus diócesis de León-Astorga y Mérida. Sus sucesores, Sabino y Félix, pidieron ayuda a Cipriano cuando Basílides y Marcial intentaron recuperar sus puestos mediante el engaño al Papa Esteban. Manifestándose el obispo ante dicha cuestión en la Carta 67.

The African bishop had to deal with the main problem that was present throughout the third century in the Spanish church, the apostasy. Basilides and Martial had resigned God after commiting crimes such as the idolatry or the blasphemy, for it, they were expelied from their dioceses of Leon-Astorga and Merida. His sucessors, Sabinus and Felix, asked Cyprian for help when Basilides y Martial tried to recover their positions by the deception to Pope Stephen. The bishop answered to this question in the Letter 67.
