Las preguntas retóricas en el discurso político : un estudio multimodal inglés/español

Abstract

Las preguntas retóricas son uno de los recursos más tradicionales del discurso retórico, habiéndose documentado su uso ya desde la Antigüedad clásica. En la actualidad, sigue siendo un mecanismo ampliamente utilizado, especialmente en discursos cuya función comunicativa es la persuasión, tales como la publicidad o el discurso político. El presente estudio aborda un análisis de las preguntas retóricas en el discurso político desde la perspectiva teórica de la Gramática de Construcciones (Goldberg, 1995, 2006). Los objetivos de la tesis son: (a) intentar establecer los mecanismos lingüísticos y contextuales que permiten reconocer una pregunta como retórica; (b) observar las diferencias y similitudes en la estructura de las preguntas retóricas en inglés y español y (c) analizar las posibles diferencias en el uso de este mecanismo por parte de políticos anglófonos y españoles. El trabajo incluirá en esta línea recientes avances en la Gramática de Construcciones que abogan por incluir en sus análisis información de tipo multimodal, como la gestualidad o la entonación (Turner & Steen, 2012), por tanto, contaremos con la ayuda de la utilización de la base de datos de distintos medios audiovisuales tanto españoles como anglófonos.

Rhetorical questions are one of the most traditional resources of rhetorical discourse, their use having been documented since classical antiquity. At present, it is still a widely used mechanism, especially in speeches whose communicative function is persuasion, such as advertising or political speech. This study addresses an analysis of rhetorical questions in political discourse from the theoretical perspective of Construction Grammar (Goldberg, 1995, 2006). The objectives of the thesis are: (a) to try to establish the linguistic and contextual mechanisms that allow us to recognize a question as rhetoric; (b) observe the differences and similarities in the structure of rhetorical questions in English and Spanish and (c) analyze the possible differences in the use of this mechanism by Anglophone and Spanish politicians. The work will include in this line recent advances in Construction Grammar that advocate for including multimodal information in their analysis, such as gestures or intonation (Turner & Steen 2012), therefore, we will have the help of the use of the database of different audiovisual media, both Spanish and English.
