Resumen: Universities have the responsibility to educate their students. However, there is evidence that the evaluation of university teachers is based mainly on their research activity rather than their teaching which includes taking into account how much do students learn, if they will be ready to apply what they have learnt in a job position or if they are qualified to face a professional life full of changes and also aware of continuing education and the acquisition of new knowledge and information throughout their life. Universities have to include competencies on information use and management, as well as to reconsider a better recognition of teaching, active pedagogical methods and the involvement of librarians in learning activities.
