Historia y obras hidráulicas en Cartagena en los siglos XVIII y XIX : ingeniería naval en el Arsenal militar

Abstract

Cartagena se convierte por su estratégica situación en capital del Departamento Marítimo de Levante en el siglo XVIII, su pieza clave será el arsenal militar. En el se llevarán a cabo importantes obras hidráulicas de ingeniería naval, tanto durante su construcción, como en las posteriores remodelaciones que para adaptarse a los nuevos tiempos se realizarán durante el siglo XIX. La importancia técnica de algunas de ellas situarán a la ciudad a la vanguardia de la industria naval del momento.

n the XVIII century Cartagena becomes the see of the Mediterranean Commandfor the Spanish Navy thanks to its strategic location. Its key masterpiece will be the military arsenal, where important naval engineering hydraulic works will be carried out, both during its construction, as well as in the further upgrades to adapt it to thechanging demands of the modern times that will be implemented during the XXcentury.
