Abstract
La mayoría de los jóvenes-adolescentes han tenido experiencias sexuales y muchos de ellos
tienen una actividad sexual regular; lamentablemente son pocos los que están plenamente
informados de los riesgos que corren y de cómo pueden protegerse de las enfermedades de
transmisión sexual (ETS), incluyendo el SIDA, y los embarazos no deseados. El número de
embarazos en adolescentes se ha incrementado en los últimos años, siendo en España el
porcentaje actual de madres adolescentes aproximadamente del 6%. Es importante destacar
que las gestaciones en adolescentes tienen mayor riesgo obstétrico y perinatal. El embarazo
en adolescentes ha sido catalogado ya como una “nueva epidemia urbana”.
SUMMARY Most of adolescents have had sexual experiences and many of them have a regular sexual activity. Unfortunately, few of them have competent information about the risks, such as sexual transmission diseases, non-wanted pregnancies, and how to protect themselves from these risks. The pregnancy figures in teenagers have been increasing in the last years. In Spain the percentage of mothers teenagers is about 6%. It is important to note that a pregnancy in the adolescence has greater obstetric and perinatal risk. Adolescent pregnancy has been considered a “new urban epidemic”.
