Abstract
El objetivo principal del criptoanálisis es la decodificación de textos cifrados sin disponer de una clave. Durante el siglo XVI el uso de los textos cifrados era una herramienta de uso común para transmitir mensajes de información sensible, es decir, de índole diplomática o política. El proceso de cifrado y descifrado trascendió al plano popular y despertó el interés de teóricos e intelectuales, que escribieron tratados sobre el arte de la cifra y la “contracifra”. En este artículo estudiamos uno de estos tratados y ponemos a prueba las reglas que propone su autor para descifrar textos españoles de los que se desconoce la clave.
Abstract: The main objective of cryptanalysis is the decoding of ciphertexts without having a keytext. During the 16th Century, the use of ciphertexts was a commonly used tool to transmit messages of sensitive information, that is, of diplomatic or political nature. The processes of encryption and deciphering transcended the popular level and aroused the interest of theorists and intellectuals, who wrote treatises on the art of cipher and “counter-cipher.” In this article we study one of these treaties and test the rules its author proposes to decipher Spanish texts for which the keytext is unknown.
