Description
Abstract
.
We present a curious heavy specimen whose novelty resides, besides the piece itself, in the two noticeable pellets behind the galley pro w on obverse. These pellets, conceived as a mark of value, could belong to the original obverse die or, in this case, to an earlier coin struck over; but, admittedly, there is still another possi bility that we rule out in this paper: a new value to add, like an “As” or “Unit” for the then Gaditan mint of Carissa.
