Abstract
En la Antigüedad, los niños eran tratados como seres inferiores a los que estaba permitido dar muerte, vender, mutilar y maltratar, sin ninguna traba. La familia era el lugar donde los niños se educaban hasta la entrada en la escuela primaria. En la sociedad griega, eran las nodrizas las que tenían a su cargo a los niños. Mientras que, en la sociedad romana eran las propias madres las que desempeñaban dicha tarea. Algunos pensadores griegos como Platón y Aristóteles en el período clásico; Plutarco, en la edad helenística, y Quintiliano en Roma, ofrecen algunos consejos para guiar la crianza y la educación de los niños de edades tempranas.
Abstract: In Antiquity children were regarded as regarded as inferior beings, whom it was permitted to kili, to send, to maim, and to maltreat whithout any limit. The family was the place where ehíldren were brought up till such time us they were ripe to enter primary school. In Greek society, step-mothers and nurses took care of infants; whereas in Roman society the mother herself was required to perform such tasks. Greek thinkers such as Plato and Aristotle in the classical period; Plutarch in the Hellenistic Age; and Quintilian in Rome-all ofthem gave sorne advice in order to direct the upbringing and early schooling of children in their youngest days.
