In July 2025, the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide (Bosnia and Herzegovina) will be commemorated, which took place within the framework of the Bosnian War (1992-1995). Therefore, this project will begin with a specific historical context, focusing on Titoism and post-war Yugoslavia, to later delve into the causes of the disintegration of the Yugoslav state and, consequently, the subsequent armed conflicts known as the Yugoslav Wars. Once this context is established, the study will focus on the Bosnian War, paying particular attention to three key locations: the siege of Sarajevo, Mostar, and primarily Srebrenica. The latter will be the main focus of this research, examining its significance as a strategic enclave through an analysis of violence. This will include an in-depth exploration of aspects of the genocide, such as selective extermination through the study of mass graves and sexual violence as a war strategy for the domination of the female body. Finally, the research will address Bosnia’s post-war reconstruction and the commemoration of the genocide 30 years later.
