Mesa XII.-Igualdad y diferencia en la teoría de la acción de H. Arendt

Abstract

RESUMEN Planteo la tensión presente en la teoría de la acción de Hannah Arendt entre igualdad y distinción, proponiendo que tiene su origen en el intento de conciliar los principios que Montesquieu atribuyó a dos formas de gobierno: honor (monarquía) e igualdad o virtud (república). Explico la importancia de que esta tensión no sea resuelta en pro de uno de los dos polos, a riesgo de caer en un elitismo por el lado del honor o un igualitarismo por el lado de la igualdad. A continuación, replanteo brevemente este mismo problema en los términos de A. Heller y F. Fehér para concluir con las líneas generales de acuerdo y desacuerdo entre ellos y Arendt.

ABSTRACT I am raising the tension between equality and distinction in the Hannah Arendt’s theory of action, suggesting that it originates in the attempt to reconcile the two principles that Montesquieu connected with two forms of government: honor (Monarchy) and equality or virtue (Republic). It is important that this tension is not resolved in favor of one of the two poles, at the risk of falling into elitism (if honour prevails) or egalitarianism (if equality prevails). Then, I am briefly rethinking the problem in terms of A. Heller and F. Fehér to conclude with the general lines of agreement and disagreement between them and Arendt.
