El proceso de configuración de un destino turístico rural con enfoque territorial

Abstract

La presente investigación “La configuración de un destino turístico rural con enfoque territorial” analiza el proceso de transición de un territorio rural como destino turístico para sistematizar el modelo de gestión optima de un territorio turístico rural a partir de la experiencia de los territorios LEADER de la Región de Murcia, España. Los alcances de la investigación pretenden un doble propósito, primero analizar y caracterizar las transiciones del medio rural a partir de la relación territorio-destino y segundo, sistematizar un modelo emergente de gestión optima de un destino rural como vía para el desarrollo turístico rural. Ambos propósitos permiten comprender qué sucede en los territorios LEADER de la Región de Murcia, qué sucede más allá de los proyectos turísticos ejecutados bajo este enfoque, por qué el turismo se integra en el desarrollo rural, qué conduce a un territorio rural a convertirse en un destino turístico y qué ocurre en ese proceso de cambio.

Es una investigación cualitativa, aplicada al estudio de los procesos de desarrollo territorial y desarrollo turístico en el espacio rural utilizando como metodología de investigación y análisis la Teoría Fundamentada con base en la perspectiva glaseriana. Esta metodología mantiene el punto central en la emergencia con base en las ideas interpretativas-constructivistas, postura que ve a la investigación como un resultado que emerge. Las entrevistas junto con la observación participante constituyen las herramientas principales para la recogida de información. Además, se integra el photovoice como herramienta complementaria para enriquecer los Memos que se producen durante los distintos procesos de codificación y análisis.

Para el análisis de los datos se realizó un triple proceso de codificación -abierta, selectiva y teórica- y una simultanea recolección de datos, guiado por el muestreo teórico y el modelo concepto indicador del método comparativo constante. Fruto del proceso de clasificación teórica y la jerarquización de los códigos conceptuales se construyó el modelo teórico. Los resultados se presentan en tres apartados que corresponden a los tres entornos del modelo teórico emergente que se explica en la siguiente idea “La construcción social del territorio como territorio turístico permite la configuración de destinos turísticos rurales con enfoque territorial como una alternativa ante el agotamiento del medio rural y sus múltiples rupturas, productivas, ambientales culturales y políticas que producen un punto de inflexión, una frontera crítica que da lugar a nuevas medidas a antiguos y emergentes problemas en el medio rural.”

Este proceso de configuración de destinos turísticos rurales se articula en tres etapas, la transición, la creación y la consolidación. La conciliación de estas tres etapas explica la consecución de destinos turísticos en el medio rural a través de planteamientos integrales y que transitan de territorio rural a territorio turístico para culminar como un destino turístico rural con enfoque territorial. Todo esto se expone a partir del proceso de reterritorialización que explica la categoría central del objeto de estudio: “Que construir destino construya territorio”.

Para explicar este proceso de ordenación de un medio rural a través del turismo rural, la teoría se estructura a partir de tres entornos que se corresponden con los tres apartados de resultados: un entorno estructural, un entorno actitudinal y un entorno práctico-instrumental. Para tal propósito, en el primer apartado se explica brevemente la realidad estructural del medio rural, el segundo apartado muestra la frontera crítica a la que se enfrenta el medio rural como punto de ruptura del territorio, finalmente, en el tercer apartado se explican las transiciones de espacio a territorio, de territorio rural a territorio turístico y de territorio turístico a destino turístico rural, para exponer el proceso de reterritorialización como proceso de creación de destino turísticos de base territorial en el medio rural.

En suma, permite comprender el protagonismo del territorio y su habilidad para construirse y reconstruirse en medio de las dinámicas de un entorno globalizado. La categoría central “Que construir destino construya territorio” coloca en el núcleo del modelo teórico el territorio alejándose de la idea de espacio y dotando de sustancia la construcción de un destino turístico. Propone como condición la construcción de un territorio para la construcción de un destino turístico en el medio rural.

The present research "The configuration of a rural tourist destination with territorial approach" analyzes transition process of a rural territory as a tourist destination in order to systematize the optimal management model of a rural tourist territory based on the experience of the LEADER territories of the Region of Murcia, Spain. Therefore, the scope of the research aims at a double purpose, first analyze and characterize the transitions of the rural environment from the territory-destination relationship and secondly, to systematize an emerging model of optimal management of a rural destination as a route for rural tourism development. Both purposes make it possible to understand what happens in the LEADER territories of the Region of Murcia, what happens beyond tourism projects executed under this approach, why tourism is integrated into rural development, what leads a rural territory to become a tourist destination and what happens in that process of change.

It is a qualitative research, applied to the study of territorial development processes and tourism development in the rural space, using the Grounded Theory based on the Glaserian perspective as a research and analysis methodology. This methodology maintains the central point in the emergency based on interpretative-constructivist ideas, a position that sees research as a result that emerges. The interviews together with the participant observation constitute the main tools for the collection of information. In addition, the photovoice is integrated as a complementary tool to enrich the Memos that are produced during the different coding and analysis processes.

For the analysis of the data, a triple coding process was carried out - open, selective and theoretical - and a simultaneous data collection, guided by the theoretical sampling and the indicator concept model of the constant comparative method. As a result of the theoretical classification process and the hierarchy of conceptual codes the theoretical model was constructed. The results are presented in three sections that correspond to the three environments of the emerging theoretical model that explains in the following idea "The social construction of the territory as a tourist territory allows the configuration of rural tourism destinations with territorial approach as an alternative to the exhaustion of the rural environment and its multiple ruptures, productive, environmental, cultural and political that produce a turning point, a critical frontier that gives rise to new measures to old and emerging problems in the rural environment."

This process of configuration of rural tourism destinations is divided into three stages: transition, creation and consolidation. The reconciliation of these three stages explains the attainment of tourist destinations in rural areas through comprehensive approaches that move from rural territory to tourist territory to culminate as a rural tourist destination with a territorial approach. All this is exposed from the process of reterritorialization that explains the central category of the object of study: "Building destiny through building territory ".

To explain this process of ordering a rural environment through rural tourism, the theory is structured around three environments that correspond to the three results sections: a structural environment, an attitudinal environment and a practical-instrumental environment. For this purpose, the first section briefly explains the structural reality of the rural environment, the second section shows the critical frontier that the rural environment faces as a point of rupture of the territory. Finally, the third section explains the transitions from space to territory, from rural territory to tourist territory and from tourist territory to rural tourist destination, to expose the process of reterritorialization as a process of creation of tourist destinations with a territorial base in rural areas.

In short, it allows us to understand the role of the territory and its ability to build and rebuild itself in the midst of the dynamics of a globalized environment. The central category "Building destiny through building territory" places in the nucleus of the theoretical model the territory, moving away from the idea of space and endowing with substance the construction of a tourist destination. It proposes as a condition for the construction of a tourist destination in the rural environment, the construction of a territory.
