- PublicationOpen AccessDesign and validation of an observational instrument for the technical-tactical actions in singles tennis(Frontiers Media, 2018-12-03) Torres Luque, Gema; Fernández García, Ángel Iván; Cabello Manrique, David; Giménez Egido, José María; Ortega Toro, Enrique; Actividad Física y DeporteThe competitive performance in tennis practice is determined by the effectiveness of technical tactical action. The main objective of the present study was to design and validate an observational instrument with the aim of analysing the technical-tactical in singles tennis. The instrument uses the stroke as a unit of measure, so that each time a player hits a ball, a total of 23 variables are analyzed. The variables collect information about: (a) matching context; (b) result; and (c) technical-tactical information of the stroke (five variables: sequences of the stroke of the point, kind of technical and tactical stroke, bounce area, hitting, and effectiveness area). The design and validation of the instrument consisted on five different stages: (a) review of the scientific literature and variables definition by experts, (b) pilot observation study, (c) qualitative and quantitative assessment of the instrument by experts, (d) review and confirmation of the instrument by experts (content validity), and (e) observation training and reliability evaluation. From 23 expert judges, divided into three panels, and four observers the instrument went from being composed of 38 variables (eight contextual, seven related to the result and 23 related to the game) to 23 (eight contextual variables, 10 of result and five of game), with minimum Aikens’s V values of 0.94 and reliability of 0.81. The results show that the designed instrument allows obtaining valid and objective information about the technical-tactical actions of the players and their performance in singles tennis.
- PublicationOpen AccessEffect of employing the knowledge economy using the problem-solving strategy on the learning of basic tennis skills(Universidad de Murcia, Servicio de Publicaciones, 2023) Hussein, Amená; Majed, Sadulla; Hasan, UdayPurpose:Identify the extent to which the knowledge economy is employed by using the problem-solving strategy in learning some basic tennis skills. Methods: The participants were 28 third-year female students from the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences of the University of Kirkuk. They were randomly divided into two groups with the same number of participants. The experimental group used the problem-solving method by employing the knowledge economy, and the control group received oral explanations and guidance from the teacher. The program lasted for eight weeks, with one educational unit per week, each lasting 90 minutes. Results:The educational programs had a significant main effect on tennis skills performance (p < 0.05), with a large effect size, as the percentage of improvement ranged from 52.49–58.78% for problem-solving method employing the knowledge economy and from 27.94–39.44% for the teacher guidance method. Conclusion:The positive effect of employing the knowledge economy through the problem-solving strategy on skill performance in tennis was stronger than that of a normal training program.
- PublicationOpen AccessEffect of meditative thinking on kinematic aspects of the tennis serve(Universidad de Murcia, Servicio de Publicaciones, 2023) Mahdi Al-Mayyah, Ali Makki; Hameed, Nagham HateemThe purpose of this study was to measure how much rookie players were thinking meditatively while mastering the serve technique, identifying the values of kinetic transmission and streamline for their performance of this skill as well as the connection, contribution, and influence of meditative thought on kinetic transmission and streamline when they perform the serve skill in tennis. This study employed a descriptive correlational design on a sample of 15 young tennis players who were specifically chosen to represent the entire target group. These players were selected from the Tennis Academy in Baghdad for the sport season 2018-2019. The Eysenck & Wilson Reflectiveness Scale was used after its translation into Arabic language. Each player’s performance for serve skill was used to measure the transmission of momentum between body parts and the kinetic streamline using the Dart fish–Team Pro 5 full version. Data were analyzed using the statistical package for social science (SPSS) for windows, version 25. The study results revealed that young players who have a high level of meditative thinking can control and master transmission of momentum between body parts with a streamline that reflects an improved performance for the serve skill in tennis. It is necessary to pay attention to support the meditative thinking in the teaching sessions for the young beginners in tennis and employing the kinetic activities to achieve the required model in performance. Furthermore, it is necessary to support the coaches in how to measure the meditative thinking and its improving to go parallel to improve the skillful performance in tennis to make players realize the local and international professionalism.
- PublicationOpen AccessThe efficacy of the old way/new way methodology on the correction of an automated technical error and its impact on the athlete’s psychological skills: case study in tennis(Murcia: Servicio de Publicaciones de la Universidad de Murcia, 2015) Lameiras, Joao; Lopes de Almeida, Pedro; García Mas, AlexandreABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to evaluated the efficacy of the Old Way/New Way methodology (Lyndon, 1989/2000) with regard to the permanent correction of a consolidated and automated technical error experienced by a tennis athlete (who is 18 years old and has been engaged in practice mode for about 6 years) in the execution of serves. Additionally, the study assessed the impact of intervention on the athlete’s psychological skills. An individualized intervention was designed using strategies that aimed to produce a) a detailed analysis of the error using video images; b) an increased kinaesthetic awareness; c) a reactivation of memory error; d) the discrimination and generalization of the correct motor action. The athlete’s psychological skills were measured with a Portuguese version of the Psychological Skills Inventory for Sports (Cruz & Viana, 1993). After the intervention, the technical error was corrected with great efficacy and an increase in the athlete’s psychological skills was verified. This study demonstrates the methodology’s efficacy, which is consistent with the effects of this type of intervention in different contexts.
