- PublicationOpen AccessBreast cancer patients' beliefs, behaviors, and knowledge about the value of physical therapy in their rehabilitation(Universidad de Murcia. Servicio de Publicaciones, 2025) Kabashi, Doruntina; Hoti, Flaka; Kabashi, Laorent; Terziqi, Hasime; Hoxha, Faton; Goqaj, Lirigzon; Ukëhaxhaj, Antigona; Sin departamento asociadoThis study aimed to examine breast cancer patients' knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding physical therapy and its impact on rehabilitation after surgery and radiotherapy. A cross-sectional design was used, involving 67 women who had undergone surgery or radiotherapy for breast cancer. Participants completed a valid and reliable self-prepared questionnaire comprising of 32 questions. The data were analyzed using IBM SPSS version 25. Results showed that 46.2% of patients were unaware of the role of physical therapy in breast cancer rehabilitation. Patients with higher education and those over 60 years old, demonstrated significantly greater knowledge about physical therapy (p < 0.05). Access to physical therapy services was limited, with only 14.9% receiving it post-diagnosis and 20.9% post-surgery. For those who received physical therapy sessions after surgery, positive correlations were found between physical therapy and improvements in mobility (r = 0.355, p ≤ 0.05) as well as pain and muscle tension relief (r = 0.602, p ≤ 0.05), and result for the variable pain (r = .202*, p ≤ 0.05). These findings underscore the need for increased awareness about physical therapy, improved access to services, and better communication from healthcare providers to optimize rehabilitation outcomes for breast cancer patients in Kosovo.

Servicio de publicaciones, 2022) El-Gendy, Salwa R.; Alkhateeb, Afnan M.Background: Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) is one of the most common causes of sleep disorders that cause functional disability in the lower limb. Due to it is self-limiting, it forces the person to seek treatment. Unfortunately, most of the times, it is misdiagnosed by the doctors and even if it is diagnosed, till date there is no guide program or treatment in the physical therapy. There is huge dearth of knowledge regarding benefits of physical therapy in RLS. Objective: The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of stretching, strengthening exercises as well as walking on RLS symptoms. Also, to find out the impact of muscle strength and flexibility in relation to the severity of RLS symptoms. Methods: An inquiry of 418 questionnaires randomly distributed was done. A total of 20 participants diagnosed with Restless Leg Syndrome were included in the current study. Pre-post assessment was done for range of motion (by goniometer), functional testing of the foot and ankle, RLS rating scale and RLS ordinal scale. Six participants received physical therapy program for a total of 4 weeks. Twenty patients who had one visit to have the measurement were studied for the correlation study. Results: There was a significant correlation between leg muscles flexibility, strength and the severity of the symptoms. Also, there was a highly significant alleviation of symptoms in the other 6 patients. Conclusion: It can be concluded that physical therapy is effective in relieving symptoms of RLS.
- PublicationOpen AccessThe effect of physical therapy rehabilitation on fatigue and pain in female patients with fibromyalgia(Universidad de Murcia: servicio de publicaciones, 2024) Abdelaziz, Nada Gamal; Ramzy, Gehan Mahmoud; Fayed, Hala Lotfy; Ahmed, Sara M; Ahmed, Gehan MousaThis study aimed to examine the impact of physical therapy rehabilitation program on fatigue, pain and quality of life in female patients with fibromyalgia. Itwas designed as a single-blinded, randomized, pre and post-test controlled trial. Eighty female patients, aged 25 to 45, diagnosed with fibromyalgia were selected from the Kasr Al Ainyrheumatology outpatient clinic. The participants were allocated into two equal groups using a randomization procedure. Group (A) (control group, n=40) received transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation (TENS), moist heat, core muscle retraining, and manual therapy for trigger points, 3 times/week, for 4 weeks. Group (B) (study group, n=40) received the same treatments as Group A, plusaerobic exercises, flexibility exercises, and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), 3 times/week, for 4 weeks. Both groups were assessed before and after treatment using the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) and the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ). Statistically significant improvements were observed in FSS and FIQ scores for both groups post-treatment (p<0.05).When the two groups were compared after therapy, the study group (B) showed significantly greater improvement in FSS and FIQ(p<0.05). These findings suggest that physica therapy rehabilitation can effectively reduce fatigue, pain, and improve the quality of life for women with fibromyalgia
