The geographical location of the monastery, on the linguistic border that divides El Bierzo in two halves, explains the linguistic hybridism of the documents, in which the typical phenomena of the peninsular Western abound (shared between Galician and Leonese) and those exclusive to Leonese. A detailed analysis of the texts allows us to observe both coincidences with the lexicon spread over large areas of Castile (such as jantares, nuncio, mañería and séneras, together with the generic foros or fueros, rentas, dereitos or derechos), as well as the presence of other words of restricted use in the West of the Peninsula (such as lombos, coutos britados or britamiento de coutos).
