- PublicationOpen AccessInside game ball transitions according to players’ specifc positions in NBA basketball(Murcia: Servicio de publicaciones de la Universidad de Murcia, 2017) Courel Ibáñez, Javier; Suárez Cadenas, E; Cárdenas Vélez, DavidTe purposes of this study were to identify players’ relationships and detecting ball transitions patterns according to their specifc position when using inside pass, in the National Basketball Association (NBA) competition. In total, 808 inside passes (ball possession score diferences below 10 points) from 25 matches (NBA Playofs, 2011) were analysed through systematic observation. A decision tree analysis (Chi-Squared Automatic Interaction Detection) was used to identify ball transitions patterns regarding specifc players’ position (roots) and passer-receiver interactions (predictors). We detected strong pass and reception sequences of movements according to players’ specifc position, especially when including interactions between perimeter and post players. Game conditions such as reception zone, pass distance, reception attitude, and defensive helps were also infuenced by players’ position. Current results point out the outside-inside coordination as an essential key to success in the NBA. It is recommended developing game dynamics focused in taking advantage of the high- and low-post positions, as well as performing supporting actions in the weak side to enhance inside pass options. Tese fndings may have implications in basketball training and competition process, contributing in a better understanding of collective strategies which leads to an accurate designing of practices task focused on increasing inside game options and players’ decision-making according to specifc competition constraints.
- PublicationOpen AccessRevisión bibliométrica de la producción científica en balonmano(Murcia: Servicio de Publicaciones de la Universidad de Murcia, 2015) Prieto, Jaime; Gómez, Miguel Ángel; Sampaio, JaimeABSTRACTC: The aim of the present study was to provide a bibliometric review of the scientific production in handball. Publications were collected from the Web of Science and MEDLINE databases for the period 1900-2012 and 1950-2012 respectively. The analysis assessed the document types and languages, annual trend of published articles, average number of authors per article, research disciplines and topics, trend of publication in research disciplines, major journals, author productivity, and country distribution of publications. Only the papers focused mainly on handball were considered, for a total of 373 articles under study. There was a significant increase in number of published articles and average number of authors per article in recent years, which allows considering handball an expanding research field both in terms of scientific production and research collaboration. Sports medicine was the most active research discipline, the studies focused on injuries the main topic. In the last two decades there was a remarkable annual growth in the disciplines of sport training theory, anthropometry and biomechanics. European authors participated in 87.94% of the articles, Norwegians the most active, revealing Europe’s big dominance in handball research. This study provides baseline information on future research directions for researchers and academic institutions interested in handball
